Anima Therapy Centre in Sandbaai, Hermanus, is a registered NPO that offers children and young people with severe developmental delays a daily therapeutic programme in a welcoming, enriching, and stimulating environment.

The word Anima means “soul” in Latin, and it speaks to the inherent humanity of each one of us, no matter the challenges we face.

Anima Therapy Centre was founded in 2005 out of a dire need for therapeutic care and socialisation for children with special physical and cognitive needs in the Overstrand area. We currently provide a safe space to learn and grow for 12 to 15 children at our centre.

Anima is a place where each child is valued, encouraged, and guided to reach their fullest potential, whatever that may be! Our loving, patient, and empathic educators and teachers are dedicated to building the self-esteem of confidence of every child in their care.

The children and young people who attend Anima cannot be accommodated at other facilities, special needs schools, or mainstream schools. Often, the families of the children we welcome cannot afford to pay fees. While we receive a small amount of funding from the Western Cape Department of Social Development, it covers less than a quarter of our running costs.

We need your help to keep our doors open and our children smiling!

As a registered NPO, donations to Anima are tax deductible with a receipt we provide on request. All monies raised are used to fund our therapeutic programme, including speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physiotherapy, and our educational programme, focusing on social skills, self-help skills, life skills, and skills development to enable our children to integrate into their communities better and enjoy a sense of self-worth, belonging, and meaningful occupation.
